This was one popular song during World War I to many of the soldiers and eventually the whole world. Though this song turned out to be a British anthem, it was well known by American soldiers and soon became popular to the Americans back home. This song gave the promise of a glorious war full of melody which was the exact opposite of reality. The song is about a soldier who misses home. It is sung however with gusto and gave hope to the many soldiers sitting in trenches that were inches from gunfire. When people from America heard the song, it reminded them of how far away all of those soldiers really were from home and motivated their production to bring their soldiers home. Though this was not the purpose of the song, it did help to improve the rate of production and the urgency of the workers on the assembly lines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_a_Long_Way_to_Tipperary Up to mighty London Came an Irishman one day.
